🌿 Pergola Installation: Construction Timeline Update
After a few delays, we finally have an official update from the city’s Engineering and Capital Projects on the pergolas coming to North Park Mini Park — and the timeline is set!
🏗️ Construction will begin July 18, 2025 with mobilization and fencing. From there, installation will happen in three phases:
Pergola #2 (Granada side): Posts installed by end of August 2025
Pergola #3 (by the North Park Monument): Posts installed by mid-October 2025
Pergola #1 (central area near Observatory): Posts installed by early December 2025
Once all posts are up, the shade structures themselves will be installed starting December 2025. The project team is currently coordinating with the manufacturer on material delivery. If fabrication begins on schedule, installation should take around three months, wrapping up by early 2026.
We’ll continue to provide updates as we receive them — and yes, the shade is finally in sight! 😎
🪧 Did You Know? Water Pressure, Real Estate, and a Tower You Can’t Miss
Did you know the iconic North Park Water Tower, located at Howard and Idaho Streets, is actually the second tower built on that site? The original went up in 1910 to solve low water pressure issues, using gravity to feed homes from the University Heights reservoir below.
But thanks to the real estate boom of the 1920s, a new tower and upgraded reservoir were constructed in 1924 to meet growing demand. That’s the one still standing tall today — a true symbol of North Park’s growth and resilience.
Want to dive deeper? Visit the North Park Historical Society’s website to learn more about the tower’s historic designation and role in the neighborhood’s development.
